Approximately a month ago at a show, I was
approached by the president of our club, Mick McCormick, who
wanted to know if I was interested in having a regular column as
a part of the new Junior Handler section of our website. And,
being someone who generally enjoys writing as well as sharing
her experiences, opinions, and ideas with others, I couldn稚
refuse the offer.
So we値l start off with
introductions. First off, who am I? My name is Brigette Lefever,
and I知 a newcomer to this kennel club in comparison to some of
our longstanding members with only four years under my belt. I
am partners with my mother, Laura, in our kennel. Though our
original breed was vizslas, along the way, we acquired a beagle,
and somehow we are now quite active in both breeds. I知 a former
junior of three years now, but can often still be seen observing
the junior ring, cheering on my little sister, younger friends,
and the kids I mentor. I致e had experience handling a relatively
large number of breeds over the years, and though I知 most often
seen with sporting dogs and hounds, I have experience with dogs
from every group. Outside of dog shows I知 a college student
living on campus.

Secondly, what is the point of this column?
With this article I hope to be of assistance to juniors and
adults alike, providing a look into what Junior Handling is all
about, and some of what goes on around the Junior ring. I would
like to share my experiences, as well as those of current
juniors in my articles. I would like to look at things from both
inside and outside of the ring. I would like to address topics
that are important to those involved with Junior Handling,
whether it is the juniors themselves, the parents, or even
breeders, handlers, and/or judges. There are many things I hope
to do with this column. But in addition to my articles, I hope
to have feedback, and will respond to it when appropriate.
So in conclusion to the brief
christening of the new section of our site, I would like to
welcome all who visit. I hope you find our site informative and
helpful, and more importantly, I would be thankful you come back
to read my future articles, which I hope are enjoyable and even
provoking on occasion.
